The shrine is located at the foot of Mt. Takenohira. The deity of the shrine is said to be "Ame-no-Koyane-no-Mikoto", and a bronze mirror with a paulownia leaf design in a round handle from the mid-Edo period is enshrined as the divine mirror.

In 1958, the forest of more than 100 podocarpus macrophyllus trees which grows wild in the precincts, was designated as a natural treasure by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as the "Podocarpus Macrophyllus Forest in Kasuga-jinja Shrine". In this shrine, there are no Sudajii (Castanopsis sieboldii), which are the main trees in natural forests in Oshima island. This forest is very rare in Japan and important forest. But was damaged by a typhoon in September 2019.
